Signing two in the Reign's promised week of transactions is American defender-slash-midfielder Kendall Fletcher, who's been through the pro American women's soccer league wars, having played in the US W-League and three teams in the WPS before moving on to play internationally — mostly in the Australian W-League. Currently she's an every game defender for Canberra United, who just won the regular season and are getting ready to host a playoff semifinal against Brisbane this weekend, with the potential to move on and face Reign loanees Jess Fishlock and Lauren Barnes — who are playing for Melbourne Victory — in the final.
The 29-year-old began her career has a UNC midfielder and has payed both in defense and midfield in Australia, but for the Reign will likely add some experience to the back line, competing with Lauren Barnes, Carmelina Moscato and rookie Amanda Frisbie for minutes in the middle.
"Kendall adds experience and depth to our backline and potentially our midfield as well," head coach Laura Harvey said in a team release. "She has proven professional experience in America, Australia and in Europe, which could prove vital for us in the coming season."
