My son was up early, which means I was as well. I decided to turn on the Roku and check out some Rave TV to see how my Sounders were doing when I caught a glimpse of something I had never seen before. It's no secret that I am the club's fictional boot guru, and have actively tried to get players to wear custom boots. Well, it looks like along with Ozzie and his custom adidas Nitrocharge, our own #9, Obafemi Martins is sporting a pair of custom Nike Mercurial Vapor IXs. Proof?
Sure, it may be hard to tell to the untrained eye, but Obafemi has been wearing an off the shelf colorway for the past year practically, until Thursday's training session. From the screen capture above, I believe Oba may have been inspired by my 'Black Cat" design, but made a slight change to the rear of the boot, that now sports some orange.

It certainly looks like the black on black Nike swoosh on the upper was chosen and I cannot make out the large NIKE on the instep either. He may have went black on black there as well. Here is my mock up of the boot I think he may be wearing.
The only difference is the choice of the graphic which would remove the NIKE on the instep. Either way, love the choice, and if my design was the inspiration (which I think it was :-)) I'm happy as well. I love seeing players express themselves with unique color combinations. Now let's hope that new boots means new goals for 2014!
