It looks like the MLS Disciplinary Committee may not have been as forgiving as Mark Bloom, as Toronto reporter Kurtis Larson is reporting that Clint Dempsey has been handed a two-game suspension. The working assumption is that Dempsey was punished for his "cup check" on Bloom in the first half, an incident that has drawn much scrutiny around the league.
Dempsey was also involved in a couple other incidents in the match, a kick out on Alvaro Rey and another with Jackson after being checked from behind. The league has not yet made an official announcement and it's unclear if any other players will be suspended.
Assuming Larson's report is accurate, Dempsey would miss Saturday's road game against the Montreal Impact and the home game the following week against the Columbus Crew. He'd be back in time for the road game against the Portland Timbers.
While a couple weeks of rest might not be the worst thing, this news is still a bit frustrating as Dempsey and Obafemi Martins were just starting to develop some good chemistry. Dempsey is also coming off arguably his best performance in a Sounders uniform.
