Dempsey is also nominated for MLS Goal of the Week for his free kick in the first half against FC Dallas. His long-range volley that forced an impressive save by Chris Seitz earned the FC Dallas goalkeeper a nomination for Save of the Week.
As if that wasn't enough, Dempsey is the subject of a short film directed by Mad Men's Jon Hamm.
Two Sounders Academy teams were in action yesterday. The U15's beat Mexican side Necaxa 2-0 in the first match of the Dallas Cup. They face Pateadores San Diego today at 12:00 PM PDT and Andromeda FC tomorrow at 4:00 PM PDT.

The U16's faced the New York Red Bulls in the opening match of the Generation Adidas Cup. After playing to a 1-1 draw, the teams went to a penalty shoot-out to determine the bonus point, with New York winning 4-3. They face Brazil's Flamengo this afternoon at 2:00 PM PDT, with the final group stage match against the Colorado Rapids on Thursday at 2:00 PM PDT. One of the pleasantly surprising stories early in the 2014 season has been the improved ratings of MLS matches on NBCSN. As expected, that trend continued when the Sounders visited the Timbers 10 days ago. Not only did the match pull a 0.2 rating and 277,000 viewers, but it also beat 2 of the 4 live Premier League broadcasts and 6 of the 9 live NHL broadcasts on the network for the first week of April.
Chivas USA midfielder Thomas McNamara may be out of action for a while, after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's draw in Portland. Head coach Wilmer Cabrera isn't optimistic that McNamara will return in the near future.
