David Estrada has been recalled from his loan to the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks and will rejoin the Seattle Sounders this week, the team announced on Sunday. Estrada had been in Atlanta since April 3, playing in three matches and logging 207 minutes.
The term's of the loan were never disclosed, but the implication from Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid was that Estrada was not expected to be gone for more than a few weeks. The Sounders still have Jimmy Ockford (New York Cosmos) and Eriq Zavaleta (Chivas USA) out on season-long loans.
Even though Estrada is back with the Sounders, it's not immediately clear how much playing time he stands to get on the senior team. Assuming he's still being used as a forward, Estrada can't be any higher than fifth on the depth chart and his prospects for playing time aren't much better as an outside midfielder. He does, however, offer some versatility and a more defensive option as a late-game substitute.
