There will be no flavor section for this off-topic post, though it is powered by Old Chub. First off, the OFF posts are moving to the FanPosts. This just seems to be a better place for things that are community specific but not Sounders or Puget Sound soccer related. It may change. OFF used to be on Fridays, and then Sundays and then Wednesdays and then I forgot to do it and then I got kind of busy and didn't do it all.
About that busy... you may have noticed I've been writing a bit less frequently over the last month compared to what I normally do. If you were on Twitter on Wednesday the 20th and you follow me you know some of the why. My mother-in-law passed away that afternoon. She struggled and survived through a five-year long battle with lung cancer, but eventually there was no more fight. One of a growing number of non-smokers
Over the last month her condition worsened and she needed more care. In the early times I was able to write quite a bit, an advantage of doing freelance work is that you can do it anywhere with WiFi. Eventually the emotional stress became too much. But, one of the things I knew is that with an amazing staff and community here I could open up SaH on my netbook or my phone and get some moments of joy.
Sports for many people are an escape from reality. Even harsh realities can be mitigated by a wondergoal, a great save, the high-fives and the hugs, a simple meme still repeated or a rec: in the comments.
Cathy wasn't a sports fan, but her cell phone had a Sounders logo as wall paper because she knew it would make me happy. When we went to Hawai'i and Cabo she knew I would watch the team play and she always asked how it was doing. She wasn't a Sounder at Heart, but she let me know quite often that she cared about what I care about and shared that with me. For those reasons and because this community was my escape from her cancer I wanted to share a bit about her. I'm also a bit of an addict to writing, and this is my main venue, so I needed to write somethings.
I want to thank every one of you that reached out over social media over the last couple days. I want to thank the other writers here on the website for keeping the content coming. I want to thank all of you for bringing me some smiles.
