Klinsmann: The man was a superstar player at the highest level, and a coach at the highest level. Clearly he has knowledge, experience, and unique perspective. Furthermore he seems to be highly engaged, enthusiastic, energetic, passionate. I love that in a coach. I agree with Jeremiah and have faith on him and his choices. But I think it’s fine for everybody to question his choices too. No matter who the coach was, what choices he or she made, there would always be discussion and controversy and fans with different opinions. (In Brazil we have a saying "Brazil is a country of 190 million coaches"). As far as his approach taking some yet unproven youngsters, that is not only reasonable but should be encouraged. All best teams do it. You are not going to play all 23 men anyway, if you identify spots that you can spare to fill with young talented players that you envision potentially playing a big part in the future of the NT, you should take them. The experience they will acquire is invaluable. I remember when a 17 year old Ronaldo was with the 1994 Brazilian world cup squad. He didn’t have any big role then, but you know what he did later. And that’s not a unique case, it happens every world cup.
Donovan: I’m a bit shocked because I haven’t really watched him this year, and my memories of him are just of him being brilliant. I was just hoping that if he was unfit or out of shape that we could correct that before the WC started. Unfortunately the tournament is upon us now, so if that was not the case then I understand the cut. I thank Landon for all he did for the USMNT. I will never forget that Algeria goal. Personally, it was the moment I realized I was already an American at heart, when I caught myself crying copiously after he scored that goal (2 months later I would marry my American fiancee)
Evans: No sadness here, only pride. Evans is an amazing guy. As the Sounders got better every year, he too kept getting better every year. Carved his place in Sounders lore and even into a National team role. He performed admirably there, helped his country, even scored a goal. How many great players never get a chance to defend their country like that? To play meaningful games, reach important goals? To score a goal for the USMNT. Man, it must be an amazing feeling. Evans played his role, he contributed, he reached milestones others can only dream of. Playing in the World Cup sure would have been great, but this does change the fact that Brad got to be an American hero. He should feel only pride. And our love and thanks, always.
Yedlin: Dear Yedlin, don’t listen to all these critics and naysayers out there. The higher you get, the more people like that start popping up. Ask Cristiano when you meet him. It doesn’t matter. You are an amazingly talented young player and the sky is the limit for you. In this past year and a half you have shown great coachability as you continued to develop your game, improving your crossing and defending. Sigi and Klinsmann are experienced coaches and they believe in you. Many many Sounders fans believe in you. You will take the soccer world by storm. Keep learning, keep working hard, keep listening to your coaches, and most importantly, play with confidence. Believe you can be the best, and you will be the best. I will thoroughly enjoy watching your journey.
Dempsey: I believe he can lead us to greatness. I have a different perspective on this so called "Group of Death". I see it as an opportunity, not a curse. If the USA had an easy group, made it out of the group and eventually lost in the further rounds to a strong team, most people would eventually have forgotten that Cup. But great adversity, great challenges, that’s when history is made. If the US can emerge victorious out of this group, nobody will forget it. People will talk about this for generations, and around the world. And the Deuce is just the right man to help us do it. In Brazil, fans love players with that kind of flair and skill. I hope the Deuce will play full of confidence. With all of his tricks and showmanship. I hope he decides to tear things up and lead by example. To show his teammates and the opponents that the USMNT can take on anyone. The crowd will be mesmerized by him and support him and the US. All we gotta do is believe and want it more than the other guys.
