Despite the buzz around a minor soccer event taking place (USA! USA! USA!), it is time to get back into MLS action! Let's take a look at our chances in Saturday's battle against D.C. United, the top team in the East.
Injury / Player Status Updates
The Sounders are without a few key players. Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin continue to play in that minor soccer event, while Obafemi Martins has to sit out as a result of that confusing red card in Chicago.
D.C. United will be without their goal and assist leader, Fabian Espindola. That hurts (for them). A lot. He has 7 goals and 8 assists this season. In addition, Davy Arnaud must sit due to yellow card accumulation, while stalwart defender and Sounders alum Jeff Parke is questionable as well. [Update: Joshua Mayers lists Parke as "out" due to a foot injury.]
You will not see one former Sounder on the graphic below. Eddie Johnson has just 1 goal and 1 assist for the year.
I will always root against a team with a player who prefers a one-word name (I'm looking at you, Christian!).
Here is a graph detailing when both the Seattle Sounders and D.C. United score and give up goals. I love the dramatic spike in both directions for the Sounders, but I am hoping we don't contribute to the trend of giving up goals early. Meanwhile, D.C. United seems to be strong between minutes 61-75 -- scoring 5 goals and giving up 0 in this time frame.
Finally, let's not have a repeat of our last away game against the top team in the East. PLEASE!
