Now, I know there are two women’s teams in Seattle this year. I know that money is tight for most of us, and most of us have season tickets for the Seattle Sounders FC as well, so it’s a tough decision. If you can afford it, buy season tickets for both, but if you can’t then let your conscience be your guide. We all know that some of the National Team members will be on the Pro team this season, and that there’s a great chance that Super V will also be on the Seattle pro team, so if it’s flash and fame that you are looking for, by all means support the new team. Take your family to see that dreams can come true for your daughters.
On the other hand, the Sounders Women provide an excellent night of soccer on game days. Their playoff run was earned by the team that remained behind when the National Team members went off to represent the Nation. Sure, Super V (Veronica Perez), lead the team in scoring and Stephanie Cox held the back line together. But don’t forget the stellar performances of Lindsay Elston, Lyndsey Patterson, Annie Sittauer, Sophie Reiser, Julia Roberts, Megan Kufeld, Katie Hultin and Kara Kuttler.
The team roster and the coaching staff have yet to be announced (for either team), but I am sure that there will be familiar faces to lead the team back to the playoffs this coming season. Since there will be no Vancouver Whitecaps Women team this season, perhaps we can gain a couple of their players. The USL W-League is a league that has provided a stable environment for the players to improve and prepare for their future careers in soccer, wherever that may take them.
Keelin Winters is still playing in Germany, Megan Manthey is playing in France, and Kelli Smith is coaching in Utah. These women aren’t just playing to stay in shape, this is their passion. Come cheer them on, whichever team you choose to support, for whatever reason you have. There needs to be a US based pro league for the players to shoot for, and the W-League has its place in that development. If you can’t afford season tickets, then at least go to single matches when you can. The Jet City Aux does their best to provide a great atmosphere with their drums and chanting.Today at Noon, the 2013 Season Tickets go on sale to the public. I got mine, have you purchased yours?
