At halftime of today's United States Women's National Team match the name of the new women's league was revealed. The National Women's Soccer League will start play this spring with funding from the USSF, CSA and FMF for their top 24, 16 and 12-16 players.
The league will start with eight teams. Portland recently announced that they are Portland Thorns FC. Bill Predmore's Seattle team will announce their name next week, but there are increasing indications that Seattle Reign FC came out ahead of the other names the organization considered.
There are still questions as to which players will sign on with the new league. Both Hope Solo and Alex Morgan told Soccer By Ives that they do not know if they will be joining the league. Their other options would include playing for the Sounders Women (or other W-League team) or plying their trade internationally where it is likely they would make the most money.
