The team gathers in the sun of Casa Grande - Sounders FC

Seattle's quest for depth now looks to Mali defender Djimi Traore who is at Casa Grande with the team.

Most well-known for his UEFA Champions League win with Liverpool, current out-of-contract left back/centerback Djimi Traore is currently with the Seattle Sounders FC on trial. The invitee has a resume that also includes Stade Lavallois Mayenne, Lens, Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth, Stade Rennais, Birmingham City, AS Monaco and his last stop at Olympique de Marseille. Traore has not played since last May, but holds well over a decade of top flight playing experience.

His last two seasons were mainly at left back, but prior to that he was a centerback or left center back in a three man line. In 2005 he both won the Champions League and made his last appearance with the Mali national team.

Sigi indicated to SoundersFC.com that he would use Tuesday's match against the Timbers to get looks at both Shavar Thomas and Djimi Traore. Sounder at Heart will have a gamethread of the match that starts 9:30 AM.

“... to be able to make decisions on certain roster spots, to be able to look at some of the trialists who are in here, especially the foreign guys like a Phillip Lund and a Djimi Traore and a Shavar Thomas to give us an indication to where they are at," Coach Sigi Schmid declared his goals for tomorrow's match. "Those are the most important things the result is secondary.”

Currently the Sounders have the following mix of invitees, trialists and unsigned draft picks in camp - keeper Doug Herrick; defenders Dylan Remick, Shavar Thomas, Mason Trafford; midfielders Guy Essame, Ashani Fairclough, Phillip Lund, Kevin Olali; forwards Travis Bowen, Lebogang Moloto, and Jennings Rex. Will Bates is also in camp but is not participating in soccer activities as he recovers from surgery.
