Pair of international signings gives the Sounders 29 players under contract, once Adam Johansson's departure is finalized.
The long expected signings of Philip Lund and Ashani Fairclough was made official on Friday, the Seattle Sounders announced. Lund and Fairclough were two of the last trialists in training camp and have long seemed to have the inside tracks on earning roster spots. Lund will occupy an international roster spot, but Fairclough will not as he has permanent resident status.
Lund, 23, came to the Sounders after playing last year in Denmark's second division with FC Fyn. Faiclough, 20, played four seasons with the University of South Florida and was undrafted out of college.
"Ashani is very physically gifted," head coach Sigi Schmid said in a team release. "He's a fast and powerful defender and has great potential for the future."
The pair of signings leave the Sounders with 29 players under contract once now that Adam Johansson is officially waived. The Sounders' weekly note package passingly mentioned that Johansson has been waived but there has not been an official announcement.
