My latest at SoundersFC.com is about Jordan Morris (scorer of goals) and his transition from high school to the Academy system. A note that didn't make it over there. Morris and his father were regular customers of mine when I worked at the South Mercer Island Starbucks and I now feel very old.

Kengezi said the African Lyon youth academy has a direct partnership with the Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer in the US as well as Louisiana College. This unique relation, Kangezi said, allows for two youth from the team to train with seasoned professionals at the world class facilities every year. The two are also afforded with an opportunity to attain a top notch education while in the US and the inaugural candidate for this year was announced yesterday as Jarufu Magese.

Until a decent U-23 league exists we should follow and expand upon the Seattle Sounders model. The Sounders take pride in placing their U-18 graduates in good NCAA programs. MLS rules allow a certain amount of leeway in retaining these players' rights provided they spent at least year training with the Residency[1].
