The Sounders U23s are stocking up on talent as Sounders Academy Alumni join defenders Mark Lee, Chris Brundage, and Steve Mohn who previously signed on for the club's upcoming season and US Open Cup run. These first Academy signings are not expected to be the last.
Today's release from the U23s also indicates that Darwin Jones as a UW Husky. "Darwin is a known commodity and having watched him play for the last 10 years, I am excited to watch him score again this summer. His pace and power will be exciting for the Sounders U23 fans," Head Coach and GM of the Sounders U-23 Darren Sawatzky, said via the release.
Aaron Kovar is currently on Spring Break and practicing with the First Team. He has time with the US Youth National Team, is a former state Player of the Year and was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. A versatile left winger who can score from distance, cross and pass in traffic Kovar has time with the Sounders Reserves.
Nick Raskasky is a defender plying his college time out at West Virginia. "The past few years have been tough for Nick as he fought through some injuries to build a level of character we look for in players," said Sawatzky. "His season at West Virginia speaks volumes and this summer should be a go d showcase for him."
The upcoming season for the U23s is expected to feature many familiar names to those that follow the Academy as the full organization continues to grow its depth.
