A good idea lost in a Galaxy of idiocy

So MLS had a good idea once. Really and truly a good idea for a tourney between teams around the Pacific Rim. A little one weekend thing with just two games for each of the four participants.

The Pan-Pacific Championship had two MLS clubs in it first year. One an actual champion, the other the LA Galaxy for marketing reasons. It also had a club from Japan and Australia. There was talk about 2009 having a club from Korea and China, and that happened, both champions.

Japan's Champion is still coming.

That's three decent teams. Australia isn't participating this year. Shame really.

MLS did do the right thing and get it out of Hawai'i.

But they got something wrong with this weekend exhibition tournament.
They didn't take the Champion.
They didn't even take the Western Conference winners - not the regular season Dynamo, nor the Playoff winning Red Bull New York.
They didn't even stumble upon the idea of having the best Western Conference team not participating in the Champions League or SuperLiga.

Nope they are sending the LA Galaxy, the worst team in the league. Now without their two best players. So book your ticket to the PPC'09, now with less reasons. /sarcasm.
