So after some searching, I discovered the entire interview with Leighton O'Brien in the Seattle Times Sounders blog. (Not to be confused with the actual Seattle Times, the newspaper, where the average soccer-curious -- but not yet fanatical --Seattle person might actually read it.)
Not that I'm complaining. After how many years of the Times having maybe one paragraph a day on soccer (on a good day), it's wonderful to see some real up-close coverage, especially in the age of budget cuts. So hurray Jose, and hurray Seattle Times!
In case you haven't seen all of the "Kicking It With..." Q&A series, you need to check them out. Definitely gives you a better feel for the players who'll be on the team this year.
Day 1: If there was a Day 1 interview, I can't find it, but here's the original Times article on the start of training camp. Some quick who's who stuff, and quotes from coach Sigi Schmid.
Day 2: Taylor Graham (defender, Sounders USL) talks about what it's like to move up from USL.
Day 3: Nate Jaqua, (forward, Houston Dynamo) talks about how happy he is to be back in the Pacific Northwest, and about where he sees himself fitting in the team.
Day 4: Evan Brown (defender, draft pick), talks about getting drafted and how great Seattle is. (Because what else would a newcomer say? But we all know he's telling the truth.)
Day 5: Leighton O'Brien (midfielder, Sounders USL) is the first interview with a not-yet-signed player. Among other things, he talks about how he's beefed up his fitness for the tryouts.
Day 6: James Riley, (defender, San Jose Earthquakes) talks about not getting protected in the Expansion Draft and why his nickname is "Giggles." (I'm thinking there are some chants to be made with this one.)
