Defensive Player of Year

Team Captain, Commander of the Defense, but who was the Defensive Player of Year?

You have probably noticed that we like to do things our way here. One of the things I don't like about soccer awards is that Defenders and Defensive Midfielders are kept seperately in awards listings. Both are clearly defensive players first and foremost. So are Keepers really.

So when we discuss the Defensive Player of the Year, rather than Defender of the Year we will have a few more names. I've pared the list down already, if MLS can do it to me, I can do it to you. The list is Osvaldo Alonso, Leo Gonzalez, Patrick Ianni, Kasey Keller, Jeff Parke, James Riley and Nathan Sturgis. I left Hurtado and Marshall off due to their lack of playing time (others too of course). I consider Evans and Fernandez to be more offensive midfielders.

No age requirements, just your opinion.
