Sunday night's capper on a fairly amazing 2011 Major League Soccer season will see one of the Los Angeles Galaxy or Houston Dynamo set a little bit of history. Each coach can claim the most MLS Cups, Landon Donovan and Brian Ching are making their 4th appearance in the Cup Final and there's that possibility that the Galaxy become the team with most regulation wins in a single MLS season. Still, for a Sounders fan there are a few other reasons to watch the game. Kinnear and Ching both have Seattle ties. There's a strong likelihood that if the Galaxy win Seattle goes straight to the CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage for the 2012-13 competition.
There's also that little thing about see if the David Beckham saga ends on a high note. Before he heads out to France, as seems so strongly rumored this days, will he get the MLS Cup? For the Dynamo this is their chance to reacquire a title they've already held twice, to open a new stadium with even more glory and get that final push for a local owner that cares.
This is the League's showcase event and I'll be watching while rooting for quality soccer and leaning towards a Dynamo win.
Sunday, 6 PM Pacific on ESPN, ESPN3.com, Galavision and Canadian TV as well.
Do you have a favorite? Do you care about this last game of the 2011 season, or are you more concerned about preparations for 2012 which hit the news furiously tomorrow?
