This week's SBNation.com/soccer MLS Power Rankings are out, and a majority of writers have left the Seattle Sounders in Tier Two, as they were last week. Considering the record and the perceived strengths of the team this is not a large surprise. The Colorado Rapids dropping from Tier One has nothing to do with Brian Mullan, and everything to do with the team not winning.
I am a bit baffled by anyone who would vote Red Bull in Tier One but not the Galaxy. There are a few who think that Real Salt Lake is so good they need their own category, and that is an argument that I respect. My rankings require a little explanation, here they are.
Those in Red are all probably Tier Two teams if not for incidents this weekend. But for the Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas I need to see the teams perform without their stars before I think they will be in the Playoffs. For the Rapids I voted while angry, but my vote did not change their overall rating on SBN.
Generally I tend to undervote, but I need to see the Portland Timbers do something on the road, and for New England Revolution and Columbus Crew I need to see it longer. An easy case could be made for Tier Three though.
Our strongest disagreement is on the Revolution, but I'm inherently a doubter.
Who would you say are title contenders? Where would you put the Sounders?
