New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe will have a diminished side due to the Gold Cup, injury and suspension with key losses being Rafael Marquez, Tim Ream, Juan Agudelo, Luke Rodgers and Thierry Henry. While this looks like a significantly weakened team, it is the defense that has lost the most. Red Bull has still put up goals (6 in their last 3), but the defense has given up 5. Everything about this game says that Seattle should win, which is a bad set-up for Seattle.
The Sounders should be able to use the now pourous RBNY defense as a spark for the Rave Green's struggles offensively, but with the loss of Jhon Kennedy Hurtado we will see the continuing rotation of centerbacks. The midfield should have a change or two with Brad Evans pulled from the last game with an injury, and Lamar Neagle struggling. Sigi Schmid will again have a new lineup, but with the small/small pairing up top staying stable (please) can we see some forward goals?
The game is on ESPN2 and KIRO 97.3 FM at 7:00 PM
