Eddie Johnson is officially back in red, white and blue. After dropping some very strong hints via Twitter on Friday, Jurgen Klinsmann made to formal announcement on Monday that Johnson was among the 24 players that were called into camp head of the World Cup qualifiers on Oct. 12 and 16. Johnson's last international appearance came on Oct. 12, 2010 against Colombia.

Johnson was actually one of seven MLS players to be named to Klinsmann's roster, with three of them forwards and none of them named Chris Wondolowski. During a conference call, Klinsmann indicated that Johnson's penchant for scoring with his head was one of the big things that made him attractive. Of Johnson's Sounders-leading 14 goals, nine of them have come on headers.

If Johnson does feature, it would more likely be for the Oct. 12 game against Antigua and Barbuda. Johnson seems particularly well suited for that kind of game. It seems less likely that he'll get significant playing time for the Oct. 16 game against Guatemala, as the Sounders play Real Salt Lake the next day.
