Major Link Soccer: Cosmos Half A Team, Chivas (All) Fire Cruyff and more

Non-rumors news around global soccer with a focus on news that matters to you.

Those New York Cosmos t-shirts and jerseys and what-nots may be selling OK, but one thing not going so well is the idea that the team will play a full season of the NASL's 2013. Instead they will just play in the second half of the split format. Despite being relaunched in 2010 and having a non-league U23 side last summer, they don't feel they will be ready in time to play a full season. At this time they are not allowed to have alcohol at their matches.

You may have missed it but the legendary Johan Cruyff was going to help Chivas (both of them) reinvent themselves. There was talk of loosening their Mexican heritage policy and Cruyff would help hire new coaches. Yesterday, during the Liga MX Final, owner Jorge Vergara fired him. Chivas USA still does not have a coach. Tijuana's Xolos won that Final. Five years ago they didn't exist.

While many teams are letting players go through various methods (those lists should be out Wednesday at the latest) D.C. United did something more - they let go of several members of their front office staff. As long as United is in RFK they will hemorrhage money and the tough decisions as to who to retain will be made every season.

Every MLS Cup Final features Don Garber chatting with the ESPN studio guys about the direction of the league. He addresses the lowering number of American participating in MLS and more. Here's a transcript.

Lastly, did you ever want to see how a United States national teamer lives? Now you can rent Jay DeMerit's Whistler condo, but only when he isn't using it.
