A funny little thing happened in the tracking of Seattle Sounders FC's rivals and their performance in the SB Nation MLS Power Rankings - none are in first. It's been a little while since as the LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake and the Sounders contested the top spot for the vast majority of the past two seasons (a large part of that is LA's two Supporters Shields). But, there's a new beast, an undefeated beast from the East in Sporting Kansas City that takes over the top spot. Before you go blaming their soft Eastern Conference schedule remember that three of their wins were over teams from the West.
But things are still tight. The Utah team is very close and they meet this weekend. Only two other teams receive a top 2 vote at this time - the San Jose Earthquakes and the Sounders. New York Red Bulls are also getting a ton of deserved respect. Then comes a territory with wild variance. Fourteen teams are in single digits in our rankings. This includes both of the Cascadian neighbors, but in general the Vancouver Whitecaps are stable in their upper single digits and the Portland Timbers continue to crash down.
