Sounders Will Host Atlanta Silverbacks In U.S. Open Cup

After much speculation, it has now been announced that the Seattle Sounders will host the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup. The Silverbacks had won the right to host the match in a coin-flip, but apparently agreed to sell those rights to the Sounders after beating the NPSL's Georgia Revolution 1-0 in the second round.

The fact that hosting rights were even for sale was not even widely known until the Portland Timbers announced that they had bought the rights to host their potential match against the Wilmington Hammerheads. As it turned out, that announcement may have been a bit unnecessary, as the Hammerheads lost their second-round match.

The Sounders will start their quest for a record fourth-straight Open Cup at 7 p.m. on May 30 at Starfire Sports Complex where the Sounders have never lost a U.S. Open Cup match. Ticket information will be released on Wednesday.
