In the SB Nation MLS Power Rankings the Seattle Sounders are on the bounce. Getting off that winless streak certainly helped, but so did some relatively poor performances (Fire, Whitecaps) around them. Let's take a moment to remember that happens to other teams too.
One of the intriguing things about tracking the rankings via the graph is the extraordinary stability by Real Salt Lake. While the Sounders have drifted from 1.92 to 6.92 and the Galaxy from 1.16 to 15.29, Kries' side has little drift from 1.18 to 3.21. What has been the key to that stability? It isn't limiting gameday roster churn. Just maybe they are as deep as they claim they are. Or maybe they have the best spine in MLS.
The Cascadian neighbors see one club that is sitting in a surprisingly strong 5th in the West. Martin Rennie deserves to be shortlisted on Coach of the Year lists. The Portland Timbers are doing so poor they fired their coach and have plummeted to 17.07 average ranking with their highest individual ranking being a whopping 16th. While that performance isn't all Spencer's fault the fact that a team that was a preseason prediction for a playoff spot they are now battling for a top 5 draft pick.
Seattle based rankers had the Sounders four, five, six and six.
