With four Seattle Sounders Women on the United States National Team there will be greater interest in this year's Olympics Women's soccer tournament than in year's past. The USA starts off with France a team that is clearly on the rise. Similar to the US, the French squad is strengthened by several players playing on one team, in this case Lyon. NBC Sports Network (Comcast 626) with Arlo White and Brandi Chastain carries the match at 9 AM Pacific. Two other matches in the women's tourney will be on TV today as well. The opener is Great Britain v New Zealand on MSNBC at 8 AM. Later today at 11:45AM you can catch Colombia v North Korea. All matches are also streamed at www.NBCOlympics.com.
For the USWNT this tournament is about redemption. They just missed out on the Gold at the World Cup and now just a short year later Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux will work with their 14 teammates to claim Gold on an even grander stage.
France should not be overlooked. It would be surprise if they don't medal. This is the match of the group stage for the Americans. It will determine seeding as the winner of Group G will avoid facing likely Group F winner Japan, instead facing Cameroon, New Zealand, South Africa or Canada.
