Sometimes a meme becomes so funny it can only live as a joke. Anyone using the "Fredy Montero is lazy" is in fact themselves so lazy they are a joke. Sure, Montero wasn't the only reason the Seattle Sounders matched their best ever result in MLS with a 6-2 win over Chivas USA. Still a hatrick is pretty awesome in any circumstances.
When those circumstances also mean that the Seattle Sounders are officially in 2nd place in the West, it's even better. Was it really the Montero show? No. It was also the Brad Evans show, the Mauro Rosales show and the Michael Gspurning show.
Were there flaws in Seattle? Sure. But they were flaws allowable in a tie-breaking system that rewards high goal scoring instead of strong overall play. When a team plays against a horrid offense team they are allowed to make decisions that push more people forward. Sigi Schmid was rewarded for those decisions. Dan Kennedy and Ante Jazic were not.
The Sounders are now primed for a late season run like they have never been before 2012. Their DPs are on fire. While Tiffert's goals/assists numbers aren't glamorous, his play has been. He's fed the offense well. His defense is strong. He played in the middle and wide on the right this evening, with little flashes on the left.
Those that would discount a crushing performance against Chivas USA based on their position on the table would ignore that the Goats have given up two or fewer goals in 18 games. Kennedy is a strong keeper. That team of strong defense and great goalkeeping let six goals in their net. Even that own goal would have been a goal if Jazic didn't play it.
This is what it's like to be the Empire. Embrace it. This is our time.
