When the Seattle Sounders joined MLS, one of the founding principals was "Democracy in Sports." Now, it comes time to put that into action. Starting Oct. 7, season-ticket and Alliance members will be able to cast votes on whether or not to retain Sounders GM Adrian Hanauer. The vote will be open until Dec. 7, about a week after MLS Cup and votes can be cast online or at the stadium on Oct. 7, 17 or 21.
For Hanauer to be voted out, it would take more than half of the minimum 10,000 votes cast. Each of the roughly 32,000 season tickets are eligible to vote, meaning if an account holder has two seats they have two votes. Non season-ticket holders are also eligible to join the alliance for an annual fee of $125.
In order to assure the the vote is properly counted, the Sounders have hired an independent firm to authenticate the votes and results, which will be announced at end-of-season business meeting on Dec. 13 at the WaMu Theater.
