Sounders v Chivas USA Again - Gamethread

New, 252 comments

If you feel like you've seen enough of Chivas USA imagine being the players and coaches that watch that match tape to get ready for them. In many ways those past performances are not indications of much. Few teams in MLS have added so much talent during the season. It's certain that none have done that while not really getting better. Next year the Goats should be good. This year they are an obstacle to be passed by, but one that if disrespected will prevent the Sounders from following their preferred path.

The Seattle Sounders are particularly good at playing with the ball at their feet in tight spaces. Just like last game, that's where Chivas is weak. Expect to see more interplay up front than usual as well as the wide mids to make more diagonal runs into the area than usual. Seattle also excels at high paced games, despite not playing in many. If the pace is furious on a sunny and warm/hot day they will have the advantage.

A defensive adjustment is necessary though. First the backline gave up too many opportunities and passes within the 18. That must be corrected. It was not a case of better talent, but a bit of softness and focus. Secondly, Shalrie Joseph is starting fit into the team. He and Christian Tiffert will run opposite box-to-box roles at times. If Tiffert can cause problems in advanced positions that will prevent Shalrie from getting close to goal and helping the offense as he has.

The broadcast is on KONG and 97.3 FM at 1:00 PM Pacific
