Yes, the Seattle Sounders are still quiet. They are not the leakiest of organizations, but those that are (hello Toronto FC) are leaking rumors. Of course Merritt Paulson just tweets directly what he's working on completing this week. It is another very active day in MLS with the trades and signings again shifting power in the two conferences.
Galaxy Buy Juninho
Though not a trade within the league, the LA Galaxy announced today that they finally purchased their Juninho. No longer on a year-to-year loan the Brazilian reached a multi-year contract with Bruce Arena's club. Considering the questions regarding their DPs locking in their Alonso-lite is a great sign for them. It should also create a bit of worry for other teams in the West.
Rapids Trade Big Red
The Colorado Rapids are reinventing themselves. While last year was a transition, this year is a gutting. Jeff Larentowicz will be their 13th player leaving the squad this offseason. Thirteenth. They acquired another first round pick and allocation money in their deal with the Chicago Fire. The Rapids are unlikely to be good in 2013, but by 2014 look out.
Fire Make Low Number of High Quality Moves
After picking up Joel Lindpere last week, this week they get Big Red. That's a great central midfield pairing. But they may be losing Alvaro Fernandez to al-Rayyan of the Qatari Stars League on a six month loan.
Toronto FC Possibly Doing Massive Draft Day Swap
Yes, Massive. In the series of movies being bandied about by Ives and Rollins TFC would have the 3rd and 5th pick and get allocation money. They will also need to deal with the little thing about Hassli not wanting to play for the club that has a player (QPR Still!)-Coach.
Timbers Still Dealing
Nine players out, seven players in and the Portand Timbers are not done yet. The two most likely players to be headed out would be Kris Boyd, who their coach doesn't like, and Mike Fucito whose rights they hold but have not yet reached a contract agreement with the former Sounder.
Don't Count Sounders Out
During yesterday's conference call Sporting Director Chris Henderson said that the team has had discussion about moving up in the draft, but would need to get into the top 5 for it to make sense. There is also the chance that they are interested in one of the many trades that are being worked, if even as a tertiary partner.
There is even the chance that former Sigi Schmid coached Robbie Rogers makes some sense. He is now a free agent, though the Columbus Crew hold his rights. With Sigi he was an MLS Best XI player and made the national team. Without Sigi he's been just another fast American winger.
