Backing in may not be how Seattle Sounders FC wanted to do it, but after the weekend results the club has again reached the MLS Cup Playoffs. This is the fifth straight season for Sounders FC to make the postseason. Only three other teams have longer stretches in the post-shootout era.
Consecutive @MLS playoff berths, post-shootout era: NE (8 straight, 2002-09), NY (6 from 2003-08; active #RSL streak now at 6 (2008-present)

The result means that Seattle, LA, Real Salt Lake and Portland are all locked into the second season while the San Jose Earthquakes need a miracle to take the final spot away from the Colorado Rapids.
Seattle can still finish as high as first in the West. They could also be as low as 5th. Their chances of having the best record against an Eastern Conference team are decent as they are positioned to finish as high as third on the overall table. They could also finish ninth. (I think).
We're going to the Playoffs!
