At this point the opposition is well know. Portland Timbers under Caleb Porter do certain things really well. They struggle at other things. In fact, we may know Portland better than Seattle Sounders FC. Sigi Schmid is still discovering their latest identity. In an MLS Cup Playoff rivalry match with high winds and likely rain that makes understanding Seattle more difficult than ever.
It will probably be a diamond tonight. Sounders FC will need to play the ball on the ground and use the power of Clint Dempsey in the run of play. Getting decent aerial service to Eddie Johnson may be tough due to the wind, but if the club can do it they can exploit his success in that area.
With around 40,000 expected Seattle an early goal could lead to the wondrous confluence of the "when scoring first" and "when more than 40k attend" records.
"The world will know who we are... and what we did."
