The regular season has ended and the NCAA tournament is about to start, meaning it's award season! Last season 4 Sounders made an all-conference team and we had one individual award with Aaron Kovar winning Pac 12 Freshman of the Year. That was good, but it's safe to say this year blows 2012 away.
This year's individual awards went to Seattle University, who in their first season in the WAC won the conference tournament and are now playing in the NCAA tournament. Defender Kyle Bjornethun won the conference Freshman of the Year and head coach Pete Fewing (Yeah, I'm calling him a Sounder. . why not?) was Coach of the Year.
In the Pac 12, forward Darwin Jones made the all-conference 1st team in his first season with the team, as did Stanford forward Jordan Morris. Morris was one of only two Freshmen to make the 1st team. . the other being Washington's Cristian Roldan, who was the conference Freshman of the Year. So it's likely that if it weren't for Roldan's impressive season for the Huskies, Morris would have earned Stanford their second consecutive Freshman of the Year after fellow Sounder Aaron Kovar won it last season.
The other conference First-Teamers were Wake Forest's Sean Okoli in the ACC, Bucknell's Jesse Klug in the Patriot League, and Denver's Jordan Schweitzer in the Summit League. Here's the full list of this year's honors:
