Seattle
Seattle U achieved its first NCAA tournament win in nearly 50 years after knocking off Creighton. Their 2-1 victory required battling back from behind, with Miguel Gonzalez scoring both of the Redhawks goals. Next up for Seattle U, they return to Seattle and hop on the 49 bus for the four mile trip across the Montlake Cut to meet the 2 seed Washington Huskies. The 5 PM match on Sunday should be terrific and worth catching even for non-alumni. There will be 10 former Sounders Academy players on the squads and Pete Fewing's kind of a Sounder too.
NBC is warning other NWSL GMs to block Seattle Reign Manager Laura Harvey's calls after she has gone on a tear, trading left and right to create a squad ready to compete with the big dogs in the league.
Lamar Neagle had a terrific 2013 season, and is now up for comeback player of the year. The Sounders FC website caught up with the local guy and talked about his new comfort level.
Sounders Academy product Jesse Klug came out as gay in high school, and recently wrote an open letter on SB Nation dealing with homophobia. Many will be happy to hear that the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
MLS
Speaking of NWSL, the Houston Dynamo are now actively taking deposits for tickets in a as-yet hypothetical Houston-owned women's team. They are using the 25 dollar deposits as a gauge for the level of fan interest, which is seemingly already so strong that it spurred the Dynamo to take this step.
Kevin Hartman has had a terrific career in MLS, but is now hanging up his GK gloves. The 17 year vet was best known for his time with the LA Galaxy, Kansas City Wizards and FC Dallas, and ended his time the league leader in GK victories and shutouts.
