The MLS schedule is, by nature, a mixed bag. No one gets everything they want, but it tends to work out in the end. That said, at first glance the Seattle Sounders have plenty to be upset about, if that's your thing.
The most frustrating bits have to do with the way road games were scheduled. The Sounders will have one three-game road trip and another in which they are away for four consecutive games. This year, they only had one stretch of at least three consecutive road games and the four-game trip will be the longest in the team's MLS history. That might sound a little worse than it actually is, though, as the four-game trip will be broken up by a 17-day break for the World Cup. It does mean, however, that the Sounders won't play any home games in June, which is probably the month most of us would most like to spend a nice afternoon outside enjoying some soccer.
Like they did in 2012, the Sounders will also be on the road for four of their six Cascadia Cup matches. The first one will be on April 5 at Portland and be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, which will carry six Sounders games. There will be two additional games on the main NBC. In total, the Sounders are on the schedule for 13 nationally televised games.
The other item that is sure to draw the ire of Sounders fans is that the final two games of the season will be a home-and-home against the LA Galaxy. Those could be some absolutely huge games, which I'm sure is what MLS is hoping for, but will also be the cause of a lot of angst.
Of course, it wasn't all bad. The Sounders will be given the opportunity to host the first match of the season again, this time against Sporting Kansas City on March 8. The Sounders will also play four of their six games against conference rivals Real Salt Lake and the Galaxy at home, just like they did in 2012.
