Major Link Soccer: Brazuca to debut in Seattle

The first official match for the official ball of the World Cup will take place in Seattle.

The photographers behind the time lapse video from the game against the Timbers have launched a Kickstarter campaign for their next project, which is called "Welcome to the Pacific Northwest".

MLS Cup Final

The frozen pitch conditions at the MLS Cup Final in Kansas City were criticized by both Jason Kreis and Peter Vermes after the game. Other comments made by Kreis after the game suggested that Kreis has already decided to leave Real Salt Lake.

I mentioned last week that MLS is likely to use a similar version of "Brazuca", the official ball of the 2014 World Cup. On Saturday, MLS announced that it will become the first league to use Brazuca in an official match. The first time the official ball of the World Cup will be used in an official match will be in Seattle when the Sounders and Sporting Kansas City on March 8.

Chivas USA

Colorado Rapids assistant coach Wilmer Cabrera is being linked with the vacant head coaching position at Chivas USA. His current contract expires at the end of the season, but Colorado has offered him an extension. The last time Chivas hired a head coach from within MLS, they brought in Robin Fraser from his position as an assistant coach at Real Salt Lake.

Portland Timbers

On Friday, the Timbers confirmed that fitness coach John Cone is leaving the organization. Cone was Portland's third fitness coach in as many years.

College Soccer

After spending most of the 2013 season in the top 5 of the national rankings and a historic run to the quarterfinals of the NCAA men's soccer tournament, Washington's season ended Saturday night in a 1-0 loss to New Mexico. The good news is that most of the team will be back next season, as the Huskies will only lose 4 seniors.
