Mauro Rosales and Steve Zakuani were the two most notable Seattle Sounders made eligible for Stage I of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Thursday. Rosales, who was one of the Sounders' three Designated Players this season, had his option for 2014 declined while Zakuani is out of contract. Blair Gavin, Josh Ford and Marc Burch also had their options declined.
The Sounders can still renegotiate with these players until the draft, which means they could still come back at the right price.

Rosales and Zakuani, in particular, were among the highest paid players on the Sounders in 2013. Rosales, who signed a DP deal after a breakout year in 2011, had a team-high eight assists and added four goals this year. But he was regularly subbed off late in games and did not start either of the Sounders' playoff games. Zakuani had a base salary of about $135,000 but made $233,000 in guaranteed compensation during a year in which he was healthy enough to only play 492 minutes.
Burch made $75,000 last year, according to MLS Players' Union documents. Although he had a career-high four assists in 1,158 minutes, he didn't really have a position. Burch was clearly behind Leo Gonzalez on the depth chart at left back, but had some of his best moments as a left midfielder where he was mostly an injury fill-in.
Neither Gavin nor Ford made an appearance with the Sounders.
