Final preseason Depth Chart shows needs, holes, opportunities

New, 22 comments

As of now, and it is a very fluid now, Seattle Sounders FC has roster space open to add players. They may not have much cap space but at the tail end of the roster that isn't important.

Sum Anon

After the Veracruz match it became apparent that Mauro Rosales is the likely 2nd Forward barring other additions is the goal of Sigi Schmid. Unfortunately that Ideal XI will not exist for some time. There are injuries, tweaks, fitness and suspensions.

  • Suspensions - Marc Burch out due to anti-gay slur. Osvaldo Alonso out due to 2nd Yellow after confronting an official.
  • Injury - Patrick Ianni and Andrew Duran are out and possibly headed to the Injured List.
  • Tweaks - Shalrie Joseph, Mario Martinez and Adam Johansson have knocks that may limit their availability.
  • Fitness - Josesph and Djimi Traore are not yet fully match fit.

This depth chart is like our past ones though no trialists are listed. While several players may still be in camp, or have a future with the club, it only references those currently under Seattle Sounders FC control. Still, players like Fairclough Bowen, Lund, Bates and Durr could appear on the roster at any moment. The transfer window is not closed and the roster lock date is in September.

Our Depth Chart should give an idea about who can play where and our interpretation as to how Sigi views the players. It is a best estimate based on as much data as we can gather from official statements, presence at practice and in some cases our best guesses. The format is similar to the last chart.
