Sounders at San Jose Earthquakes - Gamethread

San Jose ran away with the Supporters Shield in 2012, so much so that if the Sounders and Quakes reversed their results the Quakes would still be better. They are likely to regress a bit and are hammered with injuries. It is an opportunity for Seattle to grab valuable away points.

Both sides will but forward significantly weakened teams from the Ideal XIs that a coach prefers. Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid has dealt with the injuries a bit longer so his reduced team has a bit more experience than Frank Yallop's reduced San Jose Earthquakes.

The South Bay side still has decent talent though. Most notably Chris Wondolowski and the central midfield that powered them to their great 2012. Seattle's strength will be on its wings and in central defense. This kind of strong v weak matchup should lead to tactical intrigue.

The 7:30 PM match is Seattle's first chance to get road points. They are generally good at doing that over the years, but after only picking up one home point in their first six available it would be a nice little boost for the depth players to grab victory on get on the MLS success train, rather than just the CCL version.
