Tuesday night's 7 PM match against Santos Laguna is not close to selling out. It is the opportunity to see one of the powers of North America live, with a trophy within reach. Just two wins and two non-horrid results and Seattle or Santos not just advances to the CCL FInal, but wins it. An MLS Cup is nice. It is a declaration of the best in MLS as the league sees it. CONCACAF Champions League can put Seattle Sounders FC into rarefied air.
But it takes beating a too familiar Santos Laguna. A team that managed to pummel the Sounders last year during our ill fated viewing party. Leg one needs a positive result and at most a single goal given up. It probably needs a two goal lead.
Good news though - Santos also played over the weekend. They drew 1-1 after giving up a 94th minute own goal. The list of players are known. Herculez Gomez went 90, but at least he has an awesome pillow to rest his head after the thousands of miles of travel he's put on over the past two weeks.
Received this prior to kickoff yesterday.. Well played, Hanauer. #SeeYaSoon #CCL #Santos #Sounders twitter.com/herculezg/stat…

Santos did not rest its biggest players, nor did Seattle. Just a simple match of best versus best as history is attempted to be made - again.
