Sounders at Tampa Bay Rowdies US Open Cup 3rd Round - Gamethread

Knockout tournaments like the US Open Cup are an absolute thrill, because it just takes one bad play and a favored side goes home. Tuesday night two MLS sides did just that. Seattle looks to avoid that fate this evening at 4:30 PM when they face the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Al Messerschmidt is streaming tonight's US Open Cup match. It will be a chance to see a mix of starters, rotational players and reservists as they look to right the ship against another team that hearkens back to the NASL era. The Tampa Bay Rowdies are one of only two current NASL teams alive in the tournament and so have a a 15,000 dollar check as a possible reward if they win.

Seattle Sounders FC looks to continue its absolute dominance of the tournament. Whether facing the lowest divisions, the second tier or MLS clubs the Sounders have not lost since joining the current league. It was 2006 when an Adrian Hanauer led Sounders team last did not make the semifinals. While the goals for 2013 go beyond just winning the US Open Cup that does not mean the club will not try to win its fourth major trophy in five years and return to CONCACAF Champions League.

Sounders. Rowdies. Elimination soccer. 4:30 PM.
