Sounders at Union - Gamethread

May the Fourth be with the Sounders. Union sounds so Imperial. We even are an Alliance. The 1 PM match between Seattle and Philadelphia is part of a large Star Wars push and so there will be cosplay in the stands.

Steve Dykes

On the field the issues will be about a Seattle Sounders team that has not performed to their high standards and a Philadelphia Union side that is using youth to build a team for now and the near future. Seattle teams historically struggle with East Coast trips and the Rave Green are 0-1-1 -2 in Chester.

There are larger issues for Seattle than just the Union. The Puget Sound club must overcome injury and poor shooting form to threaten the goal. They are the second worst team in the league in generating shots on target. The forwards and attacking mids have to do better. One way to do that is to use their speed to get in behind. Focusing a little less on possession and force their purpose. Set records for speed runs over distance today and get in behind. That will place some pressure for counters the other way, but there is less speed in Philly's attack than Seattle's defense, particularly with Yedlin and Alonso around. They need to deflect pressure from the middle to the outside where there is help from the touchline. Lastly, even if they fall behind Seattle can Strike Back or Return to greatness.
