Report: Sounders offering Mario Martinez three year deal

With just days left on his loan to Seattle the Honduran says he has three teams as options.

All indications from Seattle Sounders FC's front office and coaches are that they want Mario Martinez to remain in Rave Green. In a recent story on Diez Martinez says that their offer is for three years. The young playmaker (Google translate calls him a "steering wheel") also has a potential deal with a third side he is unwilling to name.

"We're clear on what we want to do," Sigi Schmid told media on Monday. "It's just a matter of if it's going to work out financially. It's a league that has a salary cap, so that's something we have to consider when we do any of these negotiations."

Martinez has a history of going on loan and returning to Real Espana, but this time seems different as his play in limited minutes is strong while he also works his way to the Honduras Senior National Team. He is not on the Gold Cup roster as Sigi Schmid and their coach agreed that the player would need time with his club team.

With the injury to Steve Zakuani and no more bye weeks the opportunity for more minutes on the pitch is clear. In a few days his place on the squad will either last for a few more years or be done.

Martinez was in Honduras for a couple days off just like Brad Evans and Eddie Johnson were given time off after their time with their National Team.
