DeAndre Yedlin officially named to United States roster for U-20 World Cup

Sounders Academy player Jordan Morris does not make final cut.

USA TODAY Sports

As expected, DeAndre Yedlin was officially named to the United States U-20 World Cup roster on Friday. Yedlin had been left off the roster for the Toulon Tournament, but there was never much doubt that he'd be named to the final group of players heading to Turkey. He'll be gone at least from June 21-27 and could be away until July 13, depending on how far the United States advances.

The United States has been drawn into a very tough four-team group that also includes Spain, France and Ghana. The top two teams from each group, as well as the top 4 third-place teams will advance to the Round of 16.

Sounders Academy player Jordan Morris will not be joining Yedlin, though. Despite some impressive performances over the past month or so, he apparently didn't do quite enough to break into a squad that is made up almost entirely of professionals and college players. The only player named to the roster who is currently in an academy is goalkeeper Zach Steffen. Only three outfield players are not currently playing in the professional ranks. Morris was named to the provisional 35-man roster.
