San Jose Earthquakes fans invented a trophy a while ago. It had noble and just purposes, but then few fans in the other communities where that trophy would apply cared. And so the Heritage Cup was born. On a Saturday night at Buck Shaw Seattle Sounders FC was thoroughly outplayed, had three players injured significantly and lost 1-nil. The Rave Green still won a trophy.
Earlier today I had a breakfast of Greek yogurt and granola. It was a decent enough breakfast but I felt like I was fitting some Gen X stereotype.
During the game there were many Yellow Cards given. The list of who got cards is unimportant. Which Sounders players were lost to injury is more significant - Brad Evans, Michael Gspurning and Djimi Troare were all out by the 53' minute. Things only got worse as the injuries mounted.
The Guatemala Antigua coffee was amazing. So few places roast that right. It needs to be dark, but not too dark. The density of the bean means that the acidity can hold up to a dark roast, but the citrus notes really pop out at this sweet spot. The Roastery in Walla Walla nailed it. I haven't had that good of Antigua since I roasted my own coffee.
Steven Lenhart did Lenhart things. He actually got carded. His bosom buddy Alan Gordon also saw Yellow. So hooray for them. They basically are hosing themselves out of a chance to win games later this season. But tonight some dude in blue and black scored a goal. So three points are cast aside. There's also a question about passive offside as Gordon attempted to play the ball but couldn't. That may have frozen Andrew Weber (yeah, Andrew Weber's back, did you miss that? He's also the only keeper on roster healthy right now). San Jose was ahead at that point.
There's this Thai place up the hill that's pretty good. We have a typical order. Some soup, a noodle dish a rice dish and a side of peanut sauce. We may get this too often because they deliver and they aren't expensive. It's not a place you have to go to, but if they're in your neighborhood you should.
Referee-ing sucks. There's no way that a referee will ever be considered good by people who watch the games. That still doesn't justify the bizarre Red Card shown Osvaldo Alonso. He used some choice words, but words are words. A Yellow is generally shown for the kind of words. Tonight was a Red. It was an odd card. There will be words about this at some point.
I had a Manhattan at a German pub. That's odd, but right now lager yeast and me aren't getting along. They make a great Manhattan. There are tones from the non-whiskey in the beverage, but it doesn't overwhelm. People need to be more delicate with flavor. Layers should be allowed to exist. Let my drink be a journey.
Hey, we won the Heritage Cup!
