Eddie Johnson called to join United States Gold Cup squad

Just when you thought that the injury, call up and suspension crisis was over Jurgen Klinsmann adds another complication.

UPDATE: Sounders confirm that Johnson will miss Saturday's game against the Colorado Rapids to join the national team for their game against El Salvador on Sunday.

Grant Wahl is reporting that Jurgen Klinsmann is calling in reinforcements for the United States and their quest to win back the CONCACAF Gold Cup. One of those men is Seattle Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson.

This is of course in line with CONCACAF regulations but does hurt a Seattle squad that has significant injury concerns. The squad may need to reschedule a Reserve League match already, and at some point during the knockout rounds of the competition will be without last year's best scorer.

The USA will face El Salvador, the winner of Costa Rica/Honduras and almost certainly Mexico in the Final. Those matches happen over the next week plus and a full call for Johnson would mean that he misses matches against Colorado and Chivas USA.

Obviously tomorrow's practice will be about this report and the health of the club.
