Major Link Soccer: Gold Cup on Dirt, Yedlin on Ives' Weekly XI

Also, Eric Hassli will miss the Dallas match in Seattle.

Sorry, no funny business today guys. I've been house sitting for my cousin, taking care of his family's pets for over a week (two dogs and a cat).. Yesterday, one of them passed away due to old age. I'm still a little shaken up by it, so I apologize for the truncated, even-toned nature of this Major Link Soccer.

Tonight a pair of Gold Cups will be played at Cowboys Stadium near Dallas, Texas. And if you saw the Seahawks play at FedEx Field in the playoffs last year, you have a good idea of what the pitch looked like in Arlington. Green sand is not an adequate surface for the beautiful game. Playing international matches on that should make Seattle's turf more than adequate.

Yedlin can claim another honor after making SBI's Best XI for last week's performance. A terrific effort goal and the typical nice defense will do that. The national media is beginning to take a look at the man under the hair.

Randy wrote about Hassli's red-worthy foul yesterday, and now we know he will indeed be given a suspension. He will miss Dallas' game in Seattle on August 3. Salt Lake's Chris Wingert also suffered an additional penalty this week.

The "American Pharaoh" Bob Bradley will make an appearance on The Daily Show Thursday night, talking about the incredible work he has been doing as the National Team coach in the turbulent country.

Word in Vancouver a few weeks ago was that Kenny Miller would leave the Pacific Northwest this fall to return to Europe. Instead, it appears he is ready to re-sign with the Whitecaps, perhaps due to the form of the team over the last two months.

FC Dallas loaned keeper Richard Sanchez to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

There's no denying that Peter Vermes has done an excellent job with Sporting KC since he took the helm in 2009. The club has seen a major turnaround since then, from being arguably the worst club in MLS to among the most successful. So giving him a contract extension seems well deserved. Even more so if he lures Jorge Claros to town.
