Major Link Soccer: Today we celebrate our Independence Day

Plenty of action in MLS, plus a couple signings, more rumors, and a ban on a lame chant.

Obafemi Martin-fed fireworks!

Happy Independence Day

Happier still that the Sounders won last night.

Other Wednesday action wasn’t as kind to the Sounders, with Vancouver earning a point in Kansas and Salt Lake salvaging a tie on a penalty kick in stoppage time.

Chicago continued their Mike Magee-fed hot streak with a 3-2 victory over San Jose. The Quakes' loss is not as important, though, given the "first rule of Italian driving."

Speaking of Italians, the Montreal Impact played to a tie in Toronto Wednesday, coming back from a 3-1 halftime deficit to finish at 3-3.

Three games are on the schedule for tonight for those of you who would rather search out streams than head out to fireworks. Galaxy host Columbus, Rapids host New York, and Dallas with the bye week versus Chivas USA.

OK, maybe that is not fair to say given who the Sounders beat last night. And actually that CUSA game would be interesting if Carlos Bocanegra makes his debut, but I would be surprised if he was ready to go already.

Lots of signings and rumored signings in MLS these days.

DC United landed a young American midfielder in a waiver draft, Jared Jeffrey. The 23-year-old was with Mainz in the Bundesliga this year and was on the U-23 side that failed to qualify for the Olympics.

United is also apparently in for German defender Andreas Görlitz, late of Ingolstadt. Meanwhile this same piece says Timbers are close to landing a South American striker and that the rumored Seattle target Sergio Ballesteros is now said to be headed to Chicago.

Derby County American striker Conor Doyle is training with Colorado and is said to be set for a six-month loan.

One on the way out too, as Red Bull midfielder Juninho left the team to head back to Brazil.

Finally today, Eric dug up this great story about how the Chicago Fire sent out dozens of personalized bobble heads to media types and others and they were just all a-twitter about it. Good stuff. I have to admit I would pay good money to see myself bobbleheaded in a Sounders 2013 road jersey.

Have a great and safe Fourth everyone.
