HBO to take a swing at the Sounders phenomenon

"Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" will do a treatment of Sounders mania. Will it include as much full-frontal nudity as the rest of HBO's programming?

HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" has released the synopsis for their next episode, and it looks like a portion of the episode will be all about the "Spectacle of a Sounders game". This will be only the second time an MLS club has been the focus of the premium cable show, after Chivas' alleged racist hiring practices were covered earlier this year. The press release reads as follows:

"When the NBA's Seattle Supersonics left the Pacific Northwest for Oklahoma City following the 2007-08 season, there was a void on the Seattle sports scene. Recognizing an opportunity, Hollywood mega-mogul Joe Roth and comedian Drew Carey helped deliver an MLS franchise to the sports-hungry city. Now in their fifth season, the Seattle Sounders are among The League's elite teams, and recently signed Clint Dempsey, one of the best American soccer players in history. As the one U.S. soccer team consistently packing its stadium with tens of thousands of fans, they engage their passionate followers in a way unlike any other American sports franchise. In this REAL SPORTS/Sports Illustrated collaboration, correspondent Jon Frankel travels to Seattle to witness the spectacle of a Sounders' game and to Los Angeles to talk to the Hollywood heavyweights who made it possible. "

If I had to guess, the game they visited was likely the most recent Cascadia Cup match.

The episode will premiere on HBO Tuesday the 17th at 10:00pm. Be sure to put your kids to bed long before the episode starts, because with HBO, you can never be sure when someone's head might be chopped from it's body. If we're lucky (?) we may get some full-frontal Drew Carey.
