National TV Games:
Three Big Storylines:
- The Timbers and Whitecaps are battling for the last playoff spot in the Western Conference, with the Timbers currently one point back of Vancouver with two to play. Vancouver is at San Jose on Saturday which is also the last game ever for Buck Shaw Stadium in MLS (unless San Jose's new stadium is delayed...again), while the Timbers will hope to get three points at home in Friday's national TV contest to keep the pressure on the Whitecaps. RSL are only one point ahead of Dallas for third in the important third place in the West, thus avoiding the play-in 4v5 playoff game.
- The Eastern Conference is almost set, except Toronto could win out and the Crew would need to lose their last two matches in order for Toronto to overtake the Crew. Toronto is hosting Montreal as listed above while the Crew travel to Red Bull Stadium.
- Speaking of Red Bull Stadium, this is likely Thierry Henry's last regular season home match for the New York Red Bulls. The Red Bulls are currently in fourth in the East but could finish as high as second or as low as fifth. So this might be Henry's last home game ever as a Red Bull. Rumors are flying as to where the French legend will play next year, but it assuredly will not be in New York for the Red Bulls.
From a Sounders standpoint, the short answer is: This is not the matchthread you are looking for. As again our primary concern will be for the Galaxy to drop points, hopefully three. DC United is hosting the Chicago Fire at 4:00 on Saturday (MLS Live), because this is the Fire there is a good chance that match could end in a Draw and extend the Fire's amazing record of 18 Draws this season to 19.
Great Matchups across MLS all weekend, enjoy your week 32 Gamethread.
